Petaluma California is one of the few small cities in California with a massive history behind it. Petaluma was almost the state capitol, as well as being the home of General Vallejo for a period of time. It is an extremely picturesque town with gorgeous turn of the century architecture and design. Once home to Nancy Pelosi and Wynona Ryder, this city defiantly has a magnetizing quality. The downtown area is a great place to site see, from the Petaluma River winding up from the bay and settling right downtown, to the old mystic theatre. It's all breath taking.
Now getting to Petaluma real estate. This is a town out made from dreams. The century old neighborhoods in Petaluma's west side are where it's at. West Petaluma has homes and areas that have been used in movies as well as commercials. The real estate consists of large Queen Ann Victorians, to Spanish style bungalows, to stately mansions with old world flare. If you prefer less congestion, further west opens up to magnificent homes on large lots, some several acres apart from the next. Continuing west brings you past dairy ranches and farms as far as the eye can see. Small specs on the horizon reveal themselves to be gorgeous brand new craftsman homes with views that are incredibly rare this close to the Golden Gate.
Now that's all well and good but what if you like Golf, closer neighbors and a newer home over all. Petaluma East is where you want to be. Brand new luxury homes zigzag along the boundaries of the Golf course and access to the 101 Freeway is a hop skip and a jump away.
Real estate in Petaluma is not suffering as hard as the rest of Sonoma County. Where else can you live in the country and have a small 45 minute commute to San Francisco. Or drive up to Santa Rosa. After all that I have described above you probably think that real estate prices are several million. Not so. You can live in Petaluma for as low as a few hundred thousand.
